My First Hailstorm in Australia!

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

Experienced my first hailstorm last Sunday. Thrilled at the scenery although it cost me quite a portion to fix the dints!

Who doesn't love weekends? The only days you can lounge wherever and whenever you please. Well, the weather was just perfect last Sunday so I decided to work on my blog outdoors. Yes, you heard it right: outdoors at the verandah! I moved my laptop to the verandah and was typing peacefully when the sky turned dark. It then began to rain: not that it bothered me anyway. I enjoy the chills and sounds of the water. Then it grew incessantly loud. Out of curiosity, I got up from my seat and peered across the railing. I saw white rocks scattered on the ground. White—what? And then it hit me (pun intended). It was raining ice cubes! The first hailstorm I've had in ten years!

The dins of the precipitation battered the metal roof is terrifying. The sight, however, is somewhat soothing. To be honest, I'm so ecstatic and absorbed by the hail that I forgot my car parked by the roadside.

The violent storm forbade me from leaving the house. And so the waiting game began. Two minutes passed when the hailstorm slowed down. Heavy rain started to pour, so I continued waiting. One of the pieces landed on the verandah and look how beautiful it is!

Then came the second wave of hail. What?! No choice but to wait again!

It took me almost twenty minutes for Mother Nature to calm down. I then checked my car and as expected, there were dints mostly on the roof. They were not deep but definitely not a good note in the long run. The next morning, I lodged the insurance claim before sending my car for service. And the repair cost me three and a half grand. Yes, you read it right. 3,500! Unbelievable!!!

Afterword

The damage is unfortunate, but the sky after the storm is beyond beautiful. There were still dark clouds lingering around but part of it cleared its way for the faint sun rays to seep through. As though the heavens opened and blessed the earth after the turbulence.

the heaves open and showered the earth, us, with His blessings. such a fitting biblical metaphor. photograph by mypassion.mythoughts

It's the rainbow succeeding the storm, after all!
