1st revision on 6 February 2025: Iskall's response on YouTube

On 23 November 2024, two of the Hermits left the server. They are iskall85 and stressmonster101, who has been playing on the SMP since Season 4 and 5 respectively before retiring... Silently and abruptly.

This blog post only collates all the information available at the time of writing.

Here's the summary of why Iskall left Hermitcraft:

Hermitcraft X (Twitter) Announced the Duo's Departure

Hermitcraft tweet states Iskall85 resigned after credible complaints, Stressmonster101 also resigned. Text on a white background.

To summarise the post:

  1. Several members of the Hermitcraft community complained (and provided evidence) about Iskall85.

  2. The Hermits believe the evidence to be credible.

  3. When the Hermits asked Iskall, Iskall chose to resign.

  4. Stressmonster101 also decided to resign.

P/S The following are grave matters and therefore not light readings. Please proceed on your own accord.

What are the Allegations Against Iskall85?

There are four (4) victim statements so far, all pointing to Iskall and his inappropriate behaviour, i.e. sexual manipulation towards his community over the years:

There was "[flirting,] sexting, and even sharing personal photos." The victim claimed Iskall also suggested meeting in person, for instance "...visiting [their] country and [inviting them] to Paris."

There are at least two screenshots of Iskall's messages that indicate sexual arousal. The same document noted Iskall's frequent reference to "the dangerous zone," some of which is "getting in bed naked [and] currently had a boner."

One of them shared how Iskall "...wanted to know personal things, such as how [the victim sleeps] at night..." as well as being asked "to draw obscene things."

Below are the official statements provided by the victims:

Are minors involved? Thankfully, no.

Mumbo clarified this on X (Twitter):

Mumbo confirmed on Twitter that no minors are involved in iskall85's allegations
Mumbo confirmed on Twitter no minors are involved in Iskall's case

So... Why does stressmonster101 leave Hermitcraft too?

At the time of writing, no official reasons were provided. We could only respect her privacy and allow her some space.

We have another Hermit, FalseSymmetry, stating Stress' withdrawal was based on her own decision:

one of the hermits, False Symmetry, confirmed on twitter that Stressmonster101 left on her own will
False confirmed on Twitter Stress left Hermitcraft on her own accord

False's reply did not clarify whether Stress is related to Iskall's case.

Interestingly, one of the victims pleaded:

"As for Stress, don’t bring her into this at all. I’m hoping for the best for her and her kids. Please don’t speculate about her." -Kasszi, 2024

How do the Hermits Respond to this Difficult Situation?

Upon the duo's resignation, their names were removed from Hermitcraft's official website. The banner was also updated:

Hermitcraft Season 10's new banner was updated on the minecraft smp's official website after iskall85 and stressmonster101 left the server

Some Hermits have taken measures to minimise any unsolicited association, such as:

  1. Grian altered his Season 6 video titles and thumbnails that feature Iskall

  2. Mumbo Jumbo removed his merch that involves Iskall

  3. ImpulseSV and Skizzleman unlisted their interview with Iskall (via their podcast channel, Imp & Skizz Podcast)

What about the rest of the Minecraft community?

A few Minecraft YouTubers quit the Vault Hunters SMP, Iskall's other project. Two of them are False and Inthelittlewood (also known as Martyn).

How does Iskall Respond to these Allegations?

On 31 January 2025, Iskall posted a response video, claiming he was "cancelled." Here's the Google Docs link to the video transcript.

youtube video thumbnail. iskall released a video claiming he is cancelled

The video discussed the following (the sequence is reordered for clarity purposes):

  1. Iskall neither admit nor deny the allegations.

Iskall described them as "consensually chatting with a couple of adult women in the community." Iskall also pointed out that one of the victims "have done this before, to another influencer [as informed during the investigation]."

There was no explicit denial nor defence to the allegations; the only statement that vaguely implied his involvement was "[he] was made to look like a criminal, which [he is] not."

  1. The Hermits summoned Iskall to a hearing.

According to Iskall, the Hermits gave him 1.5 hours to do so, or he'd be publicly removed from the server. Iskall had no interest in joining the hearing, as he had "contacted the police and a solicitor."

When the Hermits insisted on the deadline, Iskall chose to resign. Iskall "felt good to no longer be told to keep quiet about certain things or be content moderated by them."

This brings us to the major topic of the video:

  1. Iskall has elaborate comments about the Hermits' true colours and the Internet's Cancel Culture.

After hinting that "things weren't exactly as they were portrayed," Iskall stated the Hermits did not moderate their Reddit and spread rumours via X posts/tweets.

"... They have done [this] for every other rumour [in the past,] even when rumours have been spread that have incriminate a Hermit." -Iskall85, 2025

As a result, Iskall is now suffering from mental health issues and loss of income as a creator.

At some point, Iskall compared this Internet phenomenon to Salem's witch hunt, where "people would attempt to drown a person and if they didn't drown they were deemed a witch and burnt on the stake."

  1. Iskall also explained about his other project, the Vault Hunters.

Vault Hunters is licensed under ARR, indicating Iskall owned the game's rights and further development.

Since the announcement, five of its developers designed a document "to take full ownership of Vault Hunters, its assets and all of its funds." Feeling betrayed, Iskall removed them from the team and assured the viewers he would continue developing this game.

Note 1: More information about the developers at the end of the article.

Note 2: Stress showed her support in Iskall's video by leaving a comment. Since then, all of her YouTube videos have disappeared from her channel.

Comment by Stressmonster101 on iskall85's cancel video: "Proud of u iskall! I stand by u fully <3 U got this!" with 8.8K likes and 192 replies. Mood is supportive.

What's Our Next Step Forward?

  1. Departures are difficult, however, they're for the best.

For the Hermits, the server's future; and most importantly, the SMP's fans and community. After all, Hermitcraft never revolved around specific Hermit(s).

The server's beauty lies in the creativity, collaboration and camaraderie amongst EVERY Hermit.

Let not one man's fall tarnish the legacy the Hermits had built; instead, let's look forward to future projects and interactions that define Hermitcraft.

  1. The Cancel Culture trend is dangerously immature.

Iskall probably has the most accurate description of this Internet phenomenon: the culture of "guilty until proven innocent."

It certainly gave too much power to the wrong people, particularly those who tend not to think and act critically.

  1. The Hermits' silent but swift action taught us plenty; the main one is to move on.

Things happened, and action was taken, so there's no point dwelling on it any further.

As one of the victims put it very nicely:

"...brighter days are ahead. We don’t have to stay in the darkness forever." -Mefallit, 2024

  1. Last but not least, please respect the privacy of every concerned party.

Be gentle with others: we all have our demons to confront. Let's show empathy and hope for the best for everyone!
