Welcome back to another Hermitcraft blog! I previously penned the journey of xBCrafted, now it's time for his business partner...
BdoubleO100! Or Bdubs for short :)
This article will trace the best highlights of his Hermitcraft Season 7:
Desperate housemen: Half-mansion with Docm77
Bdubs' starter base is a half-mansion; he occupied the right side whereas his neighbour Doc took the left.
"This is intriguing. Why half?"
This dated all the way back to the end of Season 6. Grian was about to give the mansion to Bdubs for free when Doc barged into the deal. Grian was being fishy (no pun intended) as always and split the mansion into two.
Bdubs flexed his expertise as a builder by breathing life into this empty shell: a living room, kitchen & dining, bedrooms and study nooks. He topped off the house with an attic, rooftop garden and resort-style pool.
"Aww... it feels so homey--"
Indeed! His build was so intricate, it caught his best friend's attention, Keralis. Keralis purchased the mansion and relocated it to his own town instead.
"--oh."
When Bdubs and Doc carried forward the mansion from Season 6, they carried forward their grudge as well.
As a result, both men pestered one another. Ready for their list of neighbourly banter?
*inhales deeply*
"Ohhhhhhhh no, I don't like this--"
Doc named a bee “BeeDoubleO”. Bdubs stole the bee and its hive. To makeup, Doc asked Bdubs to build him a bedroom. Bdubs gave him an excessively pink ensuite. Bdubs then interrupted Doc's master plan by luring Keralis to his side of the mansion. Doc installed a pufferfish in his pool, eventually poisoning Keralis. Keralis and Bdubs then rigged Doc's goat statue with TNT, blowing it up by "accident". Bdubs and Doc reconciled again and restored the head. When Bdubs faced the goat's judgement, he offered it some dirt blocks. The end result? The goat annihilated him using magic!
Wow, I've run out of breath a couple of times there!
Mega-base: a Medieval Village in Minecraft!
Enough of dramas, let's hop into his mega-base!
Bdubs started his mega-base by mapping out a medieval town of houses, horse stables, paths, custom trees, flower beds, rivers and bridges. Finally, villagers and bees were added to introduce movement and dynamism within this still diorama.
This town, however, was only the canvas to his master plan. Behold...
A Minecraft Castle on a Custom Cliff!
Within two episodes, Bdubs had raised a custom cliff, block by block. Remember, this was built in Minecraft 1.16, way before the Caves and Cliffs update!
This Minecraft YouTuber demonstrated his design prowess by using unusual blocks e.g. coal ore and acacia logs (to represent the darker hue of the cliff). The cliff was designed with cracks to expose the diamond and emerald blocks behind it. It also housed a waterfall feeding into a lake.
Lastly, Bdubs paved a path on the cliff to allow a traverse between the medieval village and the cliff-top castle.
Side note: Due to the castle's sheer size, only two internal rooms and a portion of its external were completed.
"Understandable; it's a megabase, after all. Now walk me through his castle!"
Great!
The castle's best feature, however, was its roof. Bdubs' concept was to have copper roofs, incorporating the original orange and its oxidised counterpart: the cyan patina. The "copper" was represented via acacia and warped wart blocks. Again, this was before the announcement of copper blocks in Minecraft 1.17!
Treading on Bdubs' path, you would be led to the castle's monumental entrance portal. The path's manoeuvre throughout the custom cliff offered breathtaking views of the medieval village, from various angles and elevations.
Next, you'd be gestured to a drawbridge with a lodestone as a centrepiece... the most expensive block in Minecraft! There was also a courtyard of lush vegetation and busts of Bdubs.
As for the interior, Bdubs only finished the anteroom and throne room. The anteroom was elaboratively adorned with an indoor fountain, head mounts and dragon skin carpet. Talk about opulence!
Transitioning to the throne room, you would be greeted by the arcade of tall pillars and Bdubs-style red carpet. This strong linearity served to highlight:
A diorite throne with complementary gilded blackstone backing. Look how the contrast made the white throne shine!
"It's truly majestic and all... but is that a bed I see?"
You've got a keen eye for detail! Yes indeed, it was a bed. Bdubs purposely orientated the throne room to overlook the setting sun so that he can hop into bed before it was time.
"But... why?"
Bdubs, the Sleep Master, the Cleanser of the Night
Yup, Bdubs was a proud sleeper. Wish I can do the same IRL! Anyhoo, this American YouTuber was known to spam the bed until the game mechanics allowed him to sleep.
This gave birth to an insider joke of other hermits breaking his bed on purpose and disowning him if someone else beat him to sleep. These notorious hermits were Grian, GoodTimeWithScar (Scar), Ethoslab (Etho) and Keralis.
There were too many LOL moments of this great power of ZZZs, so enjoy this montage on hermitcraft.snippets instead:
"That's a hilarious edit! If only he could make money out of it!"
He did.
"Uh... wot?"
I kid you not, Bdubs had a sleeping shop named the Stargazers, challenging other hermits to sleep before him.
This is how Stargazers work: hermits would be teleported to the designated bed via Etho's ender porter. Then spam the bed to see who slept first! Since Bdubs was always skipping the night, he built an infinity room of maps (night sky with stars) so that hermits can enjoy “night”.
To detail it further, Etho's note block music of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars” would play automatically when night came.
"I'm assuming he became a millionaire from this?"
Quite the opposite: Stargazers made Bdubs broke because it helped Etho and Tango beating him to sleep.
Let's move on to his next shop...
Bdubs established the Boomers, an explosion service shop with business partners, TangoTek and ImpulseSV!
Yup. The name was beyond perfect: a shop run by the server's boomers to offer boom boom services. It was a blast that even its meeting room had a partially exploded wall! #puns
The Boomers’ business was booming at the beginning of the season! Every business involved Bdubs “accidentally” blowing himself up, occasionally alongside his partners and once with the customer himself. The series of “unfortunate” events led to their business motto:
“No mistakes, only happy explosions!" -Boomers, Hermitcraft Season 7
Bdubs was also the co-owner of the Red Zone and Lamps Plus.
As covered in my previous Hermitcraft blog post, the Red Zone was a redstone shop initially owned by xBCrafted. However, after a Town Hall was precariously built behind it, Bdubs offered to relocate and redesign Red Zone into a cyberpunk-style shop. One of its interior features was a moving minecart, which is only activated when someone was in the store.
Not long after, Bdubs picked a bone with Impulse’s beacon store, claiming his beacons’ beams blocked the Red Zone and that its plot encroached his road. Bdubs once again offered to revamp the shop. Since he often joked beacons worked best as lamps, he redesigned it as a lamp shop, Lamps Plus.
With his exceptional negotiation skills, Bdubs wrangled 50% ownership from both shops.
Remember the precarious Town Hall behind the Red Zone? Surprise, Bdubs was one of the architects!
It all started when Grian invited both Scar and Bdubs to build a town hall in the shopping district. After the external shell was developed, our beloved Michigan Minecrafter volunteered to do its interior.
Grian claimed his intention was to house the pile of diamonds accumulated from the shop plots’ sale. His real intention, however, was to promote Mumbo Jumbo as the SMP's mayor.
For Bdubs, this was the seed that planted the idea of Scar as the mayor instead.
With this vision, Bdubs embarked on his mission as Scar's mayoral campaign captain/manager/sergeant!
Bdubs saw Scar fit as the mayor of Hermitcraft SMP. To gather support, Bdubs a map art showcasing Scar’s trademark trees and IRL cat Jellie, highlighted by the distinctive orange and green colour palette.
He forced Scar for a makeover, stripping him from the old wizard skin of slippers and trousers-less to fitting mayor apparel! It may look like the Powerpuff Girls' mayor skin but no, that's totally not it!
At this point, Bdubs was a builder, negotiator, campaign runner and fashion stylist. What a versatile Minecrafter!
Bdubs had carried out a plethora of work to promote Scar. His cleverest strategy, however, was making use of the Boomer’s business with FalseSymmetry.
"False?? Isn't she one of the mayoral candidates? She's Scar's competitor!"
Indeed, she was. Since False was unable to provide full payment, Bdubs and his partners blasted the words “VOTE SCAR” on the other half of her site instead. You could say it had Scar-ed False. #puns
Bdubs’ hard work paid off; Scar won by a landslide! Scar garnered votes from his competitors False and Mumbo... and even the Mayoral’s original idea, Grian! Bdubs occupied an office of his own in the town hall and decorated it with a miniature diamond throne and Bdubs bust.
Bdubs also contributed numerous builds throughout the server, and one of them was Tango's Decked Out.
Tango was the loudest advocator of Bdub’s interior design skills, so much so that he sought for Bdubs' wisdom in his major mini-game, Decked Out. Bdubs was in charge of the dungeon’s medieval section (wine storage room, sleeping quarters and the Wither chapel).
As a reward, Tango rewarded him with a free entrance key. I find Bdubs' runs entertaining, and my favourite moments were:
Bdubs forgot to press the start and enter with his gears on. Then he forgot to press the end button and threw the power-up card instead of the loot box token. He also did not set his spawn at the designated spawn room. As a result, he was stuck in a death loop by a drowned with a trident (at spawn point) and magma cubes (in the Nether).
Turf War
Since Bdubs campaigned for Scar, he was naturally on the Hermits Environmental Protection (HEP) side. He recruited Cubfan135 (Cub), False, Tango and Xisuma... as well as xBCrafted, Etho and Impulse!
"Aren't they the Mycelium Resistance?"
*shhhhhhhh*
Here, Scar asked Bdubs to join his heist of Mycelium Resistance’s secret base... twice. During the first attempt, the two walked into the fake base and were blasted by Impulse’s trap chest.
The second attempt, however, was joined by Mumbo and his infamous tunnel borer. The mission was successful; HEP pilfered their chairs and trampled their crops.
After the Resistance built their base in public, the cute duo once again infiltrated their base...
"Wow, these two surely love poking their noses around."
Uh... true. This iconic duo activated Doc’s trap and was trapped in another death loop of zombified hoglins and pillagers.
As revenge, Bdubs exercised his redstone prowess by rigging the Resistance’s emergency meeting system (Etho’s ender porter) and successfully imprisoned all the Resistance members with ease.
Turf War Finale
Bdubs participated in four mini-games and secured HEP's first win via Grian's mini-game. He also recorded the second-highest personal score in Impulse's "Whack-A-Stand", beating Scar and Etho.
Since HEP lost, Bdubs was forced to be an employee of Etho’s shop, the Shade-e-e. As the name suggests, the shop was to prank its subscribers by excessively leaving light grey glass in their storage.
Bdubs resumed this practice and left free glass in Grian's barge (a non-subscriber) "by mistake" since "he was a newbie".
"I smell shenanigans..."
Oh, and Bdubs was made to wear a pink uniform, an inside joke dating several years back. Speaking of clothes change...
Bdubs changed his skin twice this season and was the best glow-up in Minecraft history!
This happened when Etho wished Bdubs to have bigger eyes. Bdubs fulfilled this ninja's hope by enlarging his eyes to 3x3, on par with Keralis' big eyes!
After donning the giant eyes, Bdubs widened his smile and once again joined Keralis to be hermits with humongous mouths.
So big that Keralis exclaimed:
"Why are you so happy?" -Keralis, Hermitcraft Season 7
To which Bdubs replied with a *broad smile*,
"Why you so surprised?" -BDoubleO100, Hermitcraft Season 7
And Keralis was *surprised* by the comeback.
"I see what you did there!"
The final skin was relatively popular and it served as the Resistance's mascot face for a short while! Bdubs realised his potential as a fashion stylist and launched another shop...
Snips, a barbershop offering haircut and hair dye services to hermits.
He was his first customer, giving himself men's undercut style, dyed striking blond! His inspiration? From IRL Bdubs, of course!
His other customers include Keralis, Rendog, Impulse, JoeHills and Grian (on a charity stream). Fun fact: Keralis, Rendog and JoeHills carried this hair overhaul to Season 8!
"This guy had a lot of shops!"
Why, yes. So much so that...
The Shopping District was not big enough, Bdubs and Scar moved their shop-building frenzy to Aque Town instead.
"Aque Town? Shouldn't it be Aqua Town?"
Nope. Scar spelt it so at the beginning of the season; it's canon.
This shop-building frenzy eventually led to the Land Games, a competition between Bdubs and Scar to see who earned the most diamonds from selling shops.
Bdubs built and sold his shops in the form of a silent auction. His marketing tactic included a balloon and a giant billboard, both with his face of anime eyes and a super big mouth. He also converted all of Scar’s plots to pigsties.
Bdubs rubbed his success on Scar by mounting diamond flags, “haha” banners and his giant face, all looking into Scar’s realty office. In the end, Bdubs won and deposited the diamonds in his bank in AqueTown.
But shop-building wasn't the sole contribution Bdubs had! Since Scar envisioned the Aque Town as the 1920's New York City, Bdubs was inspired to develop associated utilities and modes of transport. This included lamp posts, electrical trams and subway underground stations.
"Now he's a labourer."
I told you, this man is almighty!
Hermitcraft Season 7 Finale
Bdubs walked a trip down memory lane, visiting all his projects in Season 7. He changed his skin rocking the same hairstyle, this time with black hair.
To mark the end of his Season 7 journey, Bdubs invited his pet parrot, Squawkers to “ride with him to infinity”.
Now wasn't that sweet?
Thank you for still reading!
Although he may only record 56 Hermitcraft episodes, his journey was beyond memorable. He is one of the YouTubers who deserves more recognition; I hope this blog post did some justice to his wholesomeness as a Minecrafter. Enjoy BDoubleO100 Hermitcraft Season 7 and till then, see you to infinity!
